Chinese New Year at Skyline Queenstown

Chinese New Year is now a significant event in the tourism industry. At Skyline Queenstown they have created a special lunch and dinner package for this period (11 February to 21 February 2018) which will be the only products available for lunch or dinner bookings in Stratosfare. Further details to be advised closer to the time.

 

Scenic Hotel Bay of Islands

Ross Brljevich, has resigned from his position as General Manager, Scenic Hotel Bay of Islands to take up the new role as General Manager Bay of Islands of the Explore Group. Ross does not depart the hotel until September. At this stage, his replacement has not been advised.

 

New Christchurch hotels

Current construction/refurbishment of three new hotels in Christchurch are set for completion soon which will add close to 600 rooms to the city in the coming year.

1. Crowne Plaza Christchurch (the former Forsyth Barr building) is scheduled to open soon and will be the largest upscale hotel in the Christchurch CBD with 204 rooms. It’s located at the corner of Colombo and Armagh Sts on Victoria Square, opposite the former Crowne Plaza site which was demolished in 2012 following the 2011 earthquakes.

2. Novotel Christchurch Airport is a brand new hotel scheduled to open March 2018 right outside the domestic and international terminals with 200 rooms.

3. Distinction Hotel Christchurch (the former Millennium hotel) is scheduled to open early 2018 having been repaired and refurbished.  With 179 rooms, this hotel is centrally located in the revitalised Cathedral Square and ideally positioned only a few minutes walk from the brand new Christchurch Convention Centre.

 

Real Journeys’ $20 million investment

Real Journey’s is spending $20 million on its TSS Earnslaw and Walter Peak High Country Farm attractions. The company plans to transform the Walter Peak Farm Tour with a new amphitheatre, utilised for the farm demonstrations, which is designed to complement the natural landscape. Building is expected to be completed in time for the summer season. 

In addition, Walter Peak Gourmet BBQ dining is running year-round creating a number of new jobs, existing staff accommodation will also be upgraded and extended to eventually cater for up to 50 workers plus much of Walter Peak’s existing infrastructure will also be replaced.

 

Our nominated charity

Grand Pacific Tours has been an official National Awareness partner of Alzheimer’s Australia since 2007. Our contribution is through fundraising and an annual financial donation. Collection tins are made available at the farewell dinner of all our tours and travellers are asked to donate any loose change at their discretion. For the 2016/17 financial year, Grand Pacific Tours raised $7,000 taking our grand tally for money raised to just over $100,000 over 10 years!!
