International Women’s Day - Celebrating Our Influential Leader Stacia Morris

08 March 18

This week our General Manager, Stacia Morris, celebrated her 15-year anniversary with Grand Pacific Tours, and today is Stacia’s birthday and International Women’s Day.

International Women’s Day is all about raising awareness of women in the workforce and empowering them to lead and believe they can achieve great things. Stacia is a very influential leader and mentor to many and her infectious laugh can be heard across the building.

We asked Stacia to answer some questions about her success in the travel industry:

1. What does your role as Grand Pacific Tours General Manager involve?

Grand Pacific Tours is a New Zealand Coach Holiday specialist, being the General Manager I wear many hats, different every day.  The two main ones are the management of Head Office in Melbourne, its staff and processes and the functionality of the tours on the road in New Zealand, in conjunction with our NZ based operations team.

2. How did you start out in your career?

I started my career in the hotel industry originally as a secretary and then got cross exposure in reservations, food & beverage, and finished as Director of Sales & Marketing for a chain of hotels – I just kept putting my hand up for any job that would see my career progress.  Once in the Hospitality/Tourism industry it is too hard to leave, it is in your blood.

3. Can you name a person who has had a tremendous impact on you as a leader?

There is not one person, growing up through the industry I have always observed my colleagues major strengths and identified what was important for leadership.  I have done a lot of reading of self-help management and leadership publications and always try to implement key tips.
GPT Managing Director Peter Harding has certainly had impact on my passion for success as his energy is infectious.

4. What’s one thing you never leave the house without?

Lipstick & Mobile Phone – I know that is two but both are equally important.

5. What advice would you give to your younger self?

My advice would be to stick to your instincts as they are normally right.  Work hard and play hard – balance is important.   Every problem has a solution if you break it down piece by piece and define the strengths and weaknesses of the situation.  Never blame, just resolve. It is better to laugh than cry…and laugh loudly so everyone else can feed off your energy!
