Itinerary Review of the 16 Day Solo Travellers Highlights Tour

30 July 19

Read about all the highlights and attractions included in the 16 Day Solo Travellers Highlights Tour itinerary.

When travelling New Zealand by coach, every day is different and more exciting than the last. Sit back and relax on a 16 Solo Travellers Highlights Tour knowing the hassle of overlooking hidden locations or taking a wrong turn is removed.

Begin the 16 Day Solo Travellers Highlights Tour in Christchurch, be welcomed by the friendly locals and transferred to your hotel including porterage service. Spend the first evening with a complimentary pre dinner drink and meet your new travelling companions over a welcome dinner.

In the days that follow, explore the scenic South-East coastline towns of Omarama, Dunedin and the Otago Peninsular. One highlight of your tour includes a morning tea and visit to Larnach Castle. Hear about the scandalous history on a guided tour, then enjoy time wandering the Garden of International Significance.

In the South-West you will explore Te Anau where you will have an opportunity to further enhance your experience with an optional tour – these are icing on the cake experiences offered throughout NZ. Cruise across Lake Te Anau to visit the Glow Worm Caves. Experience a mysterious unground world of waterfalls and incredible rock formations.

Board a cruise and travel through the breathtaking fiords and dramatic mountain peaks of Milford Sound; carved by glaciers during the ice ages and described as the ‘eighth wonder of the world’.

See NZ’s highest peak, Mt Cook and travel up through the West Coast to marvel at the snow-capped peaks of the mighty Southern Alps, stretching as far as the eye can see.

Board the world-renowned TranzAlpine Rail Journey from Arthur’s Pass and travel through the scenic patchwork farmlands of the Canterbury plains before arriving back into Christchurch. Say good-bye to the beautiful South Island as you board the Interislander Ferry, bound for the vastly different North Island.

Arrive into the capital Wellington and explore Te Papa, New Zealand’s National Museum with exhibits embracing Maori and European culture. With a free afternoon, jump on the Wellington Cable Car and head up to the look out before exploring the Botanical Gardens and Space Place at Carter Observatory. Alternatively, relax with your new friends in one of the popular cafes and restaurants.

Depart Wellington and head North to the geothermal wonderland of Rotorua. Immerse yourself in the Maori culture by enjoying a Traditional Maori Hangi and Concert. The Hangi feast involves cooking the food in the ground using the geothermal heat, giving the food a delicious smoky flavour.

Whilst in Rotorua, you will also have time for a gondola ride and visit to Agrodome, a 350-acre working farm, for an action packed hour of farming entertainment and education. Who would’ve thought 19 different breeds of sheep would be so interesting!

Travel north towards the Bay of Islands and marvel at the ancient Kauri Trees, bursting with legends of gods and myths. Arrive into Paihia and visit the signing of the treaty between the Maori Tribes and the British Crown – one of the most significant moments in New Zealand’s history.

Cruise on a luxury catamaran past dolphins and white sandy beaches on a tour in the Bay of Islands, home to 144 islands. Visit the famous Hole in the Rock, symbolic to the Maori tribes who would pass through the entrance on their way to battle as a symbol of a safe journey.

Head back into cosmopolitan Auckland and enjoy a city sights tour. On your final evening, you will enjoy a special dinner with your new found friends and toast to your memorable experiences.

One previous travellers commented, “Being a widow, I wanted to meet and share experiences with like-minded people who are passionate about living life to the fullest. I thoroughly enjoyed every day and experiences. Everlasting memories. Trip of a lifetime. Leant so much of NZ history and culture. Packed a lot in which I would not have known about or done on my own. Extremely good value”. F.L. (NSW)
