Dolphin/Hole in the Rock Cruise, Bay of Islands
Any weather related issues that may impact the Dolphin/Hole in the Rock Cruise for GPT travellers will now be communicated directly to Malcolm Hegh, GPT North Island Operations Manager, by the team at Fullers. Malcolm will in turn communicate the relevant information to the GPT Crew plus inform Head Office (if applicable). These issues will cover any of the following instances:

  • Cruise through the ‘Hole in the Rock’ may not be possible due to rough conditions
  • Alternate Inner Island cruise may be required due to rough conditions
  • Cruise cancelled due to inclement weather


Rotorua Duck Tours
The team at Rotorua Duck Tours have received the 2017 TripAdvisor Certificate of Excellence for the sixth year in a row - an awesome achievement! Featured in GPT’s Optional Tours Directory, the 90 Minute Rotorua City & Lakes Tour (R8) provides the opportunity for GPT travellers to discover the natural native scenery and pristine lakes onboard New Zealand’s only Amphibious WWII Landing Craft. The cost of this experience is $65pp (no increase from last season).


James Cook Hotel Grand Chancellor
The James Cook Hotel Grand Chancellor has commenced work replacing all seven elevators which is due to be completed by mid-2018. The schedule will allow at least one working elevator for each hotel wing for the duration so all floors will still be accessible by GPT guests, however some delays may be expected during peak times. Tour Instructions will also include this information.

  • July to late Nov; guest rooms affected are Lambton, Premium, Club King & Suites
  • Late 2017 to mid-2018; guest rooms affected are the Terrace & Family Room


The Hermitage Hotel Aoraki Mount Cook (Ultimate Small Group Tours)
The Hermitage Hotel Aoraki Mount Cook will be renovating their Food & Beverage areas throughout the 2017/18 & 2018/19 winter and shoulder seasons. Tours affected will be advised to GPT Crew via the Tour Instructions.  In addition, this season GPT travellers will receive the following as part of their experience at this hotel:

  • Personalised Welcome Card from the Hotel General Manager
  • TDH dinner in the Panorama dining room. Meals are to be pre-ordered by 12.00noon on day of dining (a pre-order form will be included with the Tour Instructions)
  • Room upgrade as noted on the Tour Instructions when applicable (subject to availability and only during certain months)


Crew Communication
As the season commences, we remind GPT Coach Captains and Tour Guides to regularly communicate between each other. Communication can be initiated prior to the tour beginning and most definitely whilst on tour. Having a good rapport between the Crew is key to a successful tour. Please ensure you familiarise yourself with all aspects of operating a GPT coach tour and how it relates to you and the traveller (refer to Crew Tour Notes located in your Crew Manual).
