Waitomo Glowworm Caves

Under the green hills of Waitomo lies a wonderous world of nature.

The caves and underground rivers form a network well-known for the bioluminescent insects that live there - glowworms. 

The area's name comes from the Maori words wai (water) and tomo (hole).
